Amplifiers

A few weeks ago a man from Naitasiri was talking to me about  the sau or supernatural powers our chiefs once had and went on describing how it was revered in Fiji. I didn't remind him of how they received those powers back then he was quite intelligent enough to understand. He was hard pressed on the treatment being given to our Chiefs by the current regime. In this day and age being enlightened and having an open minded approach is a good combination in tackling issues. We are not the same as the past. The Sau is gone, the only avenue for receiving Sau nowadays, is true acceptance of  GOD as the overall power of the Vanua and Matanitu there can be no compromise, denying this will reveal the true nature of your status. We say that people belong to the Chiefs and are not accountable to anybody for their actions. We have accepted Christianity, the only title disputes that we have nowadays is when we read or listen to the media about a certain faction of a Vanua bestowing a chief there only to be challenged by another party saying they are the rightful holders. Then the NLC steps in to clarify who the rightful holder should be. Now going back to the old days, title disputes would be settled on the battlefield by the opposing faction or a surprise attack and there's the contests in which a display of skills, wits and intelligence is involved the latter I believe was the ancient of the two and was widely used then the first method before the dark ages, then to the victor goes the spoils. In certain times, a whole family has to be wiped out to avoid any future ramification as was in the Cakobau era though dissimilar in certain areas when Ratu Seru himself was hidden by his father from his enemies for fear they might kill his son and end his line. Fijian politics in the days leading to the colonial era was pure cloak and dagger stuff. Nowadays it might be of a different version but it still has the same attributes.  Back to this Naitasiri man, I told him one can make comments about chiefs nowadays, their style of leadership or how they handle themselves in this day and age but with the right reasons. We are firm believers nowadays that Kings are from Gods calling, a belief etched right out of the Bible. What we must also understand nowadays when it's from God it is within his authority to take it away when he sees fit. I stressed to him challenging a Chief for the right reasons is acceptable only to a certain point. If he or she disagrees then take your leave and pray it works out for the best. We must always remember anything done deceitfully will never live out its years. If we truly believe in the God of Jacob then we must believe and understand the promises he made to him, Blessed are those who bless you, your descendants will be as many as the stars above and cursed are those who curse you.  To that man whether he got what I said, his intepretation is his own. Remember problems are meant to be solved. Solving it is the problem and the cycle continues.
